Sénégal : 3 investisseurs accordent un prêt de 94,5 millions de dollars à la Sonatel

Agence Ecofin – Proparco, la British International Investment et la Société financière internationale ont conjointement alloué une ligne de crédit à Sonatel pour renforcer ses infrastructures, tours et câbles au Sénégal. Le prêt est conditionné par des critères liés à la prise en compte du genre et au renforcement du numérique au sein de l’entreprise.

Sonatel a signé vendredi 17 mai un accord de prêt en monnaie locale, d’un montant équivalent à 87 millions d’euros (environ 94,5 millions USD), avec Proparco, la British International Investment et la Société financière internationale. Ces 3 institutions financières ont respectivement apporté 30 millions €, 25 millions € et 32 millions € pour financer l’extension des infrastructures, tours et câbles du groupe télécoms au Sénégal, principalement dans les zones rurales du pays.

Le coût de cette ligne de crédit est conditionné à la réalisation d’objectifs mesurables liés à des critères de développement durable. Il est assorti de 2 conditions portant sur la prise en compte du genre, à travers le renforcement de la présence de femmes aux postes de direction de Sonatel, et le renforcement des formations au numérique au sein de l’entreprise.

« Ce prêt s’inscrit dans notre objectif d’investir davantage en Afrique de l’Ouest francophone, et prioritairement dans le domaine des infrastructures numériques », a commenté Chris Chijiutomi, responsable Afrique du britannique BII.

Sonatel, filiale du groupe français Orange, a dégagé un résultat net consolidé en hausse de 19%, à 331,7 milliards FCFA au terme de l’année 2023. Cotée sur la Bourse régionale des valeurs mobilières, ce groupe télécoms est l’un des leaders sur ses marchés africains, principalement dans les domaines de la téléphonie mobile, du mobile money et de l’internet.
