Le secteur de la monnaie électronique reste dynamique au Sénégal. En 2020, un volume de près de 6 000 milliards F Cfa (5 931,08 milliards) ont été enregistrés dans les transactions. . Cette circulation de l’argent s’est faite à travers 1 011 064 726 opérations durant l’année dernière.
En 2020, il y a eu 8 428 773 comptes de monnaie électronique au Sénégal dont 4 826 273 chez Mobile Cash SA et 3 602 500 comptes chez Orange finance mobile Sénégal (Orange money). Seulement, plus de la moitié de ces comptes à savoir 4 543 557 comptes sont dormants, c’est-à-dire sans la moindre transaction depuis 90 jours. Plus de 3 millions de ces comptes dormants se retrouvent chez Orange money.
Malgré ce dynamisme, le Sénégal, en matière d’utilisation des services financiers, se trouve derrière certains de ses voisins de l’Uemoa, à savoir la Cote d’Ivoire, le Bénin, le Togo et le Burkina Faso.
