Agence Ecofin – L’exploration pétrogazière fait partie intégrante de la politique énergétique du Maroc axée essentiellement sur le positionnement du royaume en tant qu’acteur clé de la transition énergétique en Afrique.
Au Maroc, l’Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) a officialisé mardi 2 juillet l’attribution à la société américaine ExxonMobil, de droits pour rechercher des hydrocarbures dans les eaux territoriales du royaume.
Ce développement fait suite à la signature de deux accords d’exploration avec la multinationale concernant respectivement les zones d’intérêt Safi-Essaouira Offshore et Agadir-Ifni Offshore, toutes deux localisées sur la côte atlantique marocaine.
« La signature de ces contrats s’inscrit dans le cadre de la stratégie de promotion du potentiel en hydrocarbures du sous-sol national développée par l’ONHYM », a déclaré l’organisme d’État, sans toutefois préciser les modalités de mise en œuvre des deals concernés.
Ces derniers offrent à la compagnie américaine l’opportunité de contribuer à l’évaluation du potentiel pétrolier et gazier des eaux peu profondes au large du Maroc. Ceci dans un contexte prospectif qui reste encore globalement peu satisfaisant.
En effet, la multiplication ces dernières années des campagnes d’exploration pétrogazière n’a pas favorisé la découverte de gisements commercialement viable, à l’exception du gaz d’Anchois contrôlé par Energean, Chariot et l’ONHYM.
