L’Autorité nationale en charge des revenus fiscaux (MRA) du Malawi a annoncé avoir mobilisé, en deux mois, plus de 612 000 $ au titre de taxe carbone auprès des usagers de la route.
Le Malawi a institué dans le cadre de son budget 2019/2020, la taxe carbone, devenant ainsi le deuxième pays du continent après l’Afrique du Sud à adopter cet instrument de financement de la lutte contre le changement climatique. Cette taxe qui s’applique entre autres aux automobilistes et aux motocyclistes varie entre 5,42 $ et 21,02 $ selon le type de véhicule utilisé.
Les fonds qui seront mobilisés à travers cet impôt iront au profit du Fonds pour l’environnement géré par le ministère des Ressources naturelles, de l’Energie et des Mines en collaboration avec l’Agence malawite de protection de l’environnement. Ces revenus serviront à financer les différents projets de lutte contre la dégradation de l’environnement mis en œuvre dans le pays.
