Découvert il y a deux ans en mer ivoirienne, le champ pétrolifère Baleine est le plus vaste gisement de brut du pays. Il est entré en production en août dernier. À terme, Eni l’opérateur de la licence d’exploitation veut porter à 200 000 barils par jour, la production du site.
Le géant de l’Énergie, Eni prévoit d’investir 10 milliards de dollars dans le développement du champ offshore de Baleine en Côte d’Ivoire, découvert en 2021 avec des réserves certifiées d’environ 2,5 milliards de barils de pétrole et 3,3 trillions de pieds cubes de gaz naturel. L’annonce a été faite en fin de semaine dernière par le ministre ivoirien de l’Énergie, Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly.
Le dirigeant a souligné l’impact économique substantiel de ce projet, déclarant « avec un investissement total estimé à 10 milliards de dollars, le projet Baleine aura un impact durable sur notre économie ». Les projections indiquent une augmentation notable de la production de pétrole brut, avec une production prévue de 30 000 barils par jour en 2023, qui atteindra le chiffre de 200 000 barils par jour d’ici 2027.
Outre le pétrole, le champ de Baleine devrait produire 200 millions de pieds cubes de gaz naturel par an d’ici 2027, un développement qui revêt une importance économique considérable. Une partie du gaz sera en effet injectée dans le circuit national de production d’électricité.
