Agence Ecofin – Cette mesure prise par le gouvernement camerounais vise à stimuler la transformation locale du bois. Elle aura un impact positif sur l’économie camerounaise en créant des emplois et en générant des recettes fiscales.
Engagé dans la promotion de la transformation locale du bois, l’État camerounais a mis à la disposition des opérateurs du secteur forestier deux zones industrielles de 224 hectares chacune dans la région de l’Est. Ces sites, situés à Doumé-Bonis et Mandjo Kano, sont destinés à la transformation de bois en produits finis.
La mise à disposition de ces zones industrielles par la MAGZI (Mission d’aménagement et de gestion des zones industrielles), une entreprise publique chargée de la gestion du foncier industriel, s’inscrit dans une stratégie globale visant à décourager les exportations de grumes et à favoriser la production locale de meubles et autres produits en bois.
Pour ce faire, le gouvernement a pris une série de mesures fiscales et douanières. Par exemple, le taux des droits de sortie des grumes a été progressivement augmenté depuis 2017, passant de 17,5 % à 75 % en 2024. Cette augmentation vise à rendre les exportations de grumes moins rentables et à encourager les entreprises à transformer le bois localement.
Le gouvernement a en outre pris des mesures pour favoriser la demande de produits en bois locaux. La Loi de finances 2023 prévoit une exonération des taxes sur les équipements entrant dans la transformation du bois. De plus, la Loi de finances 2024 instaure un droit d’accises de 25% sur les importations de meubles en bois, en métal et en plastique.
Ces mesures visent à rendre les produits en bois locaux plus compétitifs et à réduire la demande pour les produits importés.
