« Les amendements adoptés par le Parlement montrent que les préoccupations des communautés ont été entendues et prises en compte », s’est félicité le dirigeant de la nation arc-en-ciel, qui note qu’ « un État capable et éthique nécessite une base solide au niveau local, et la nouvelle loi contribuera grandement à renforcer la confiance des communautés dans le gouvernement local, et à permettre des partenariats et une coopération plus solides entre les municipalités et les communautés qu’elles servent ».
L’un des amendements notables de la nouvelle loi est l’interdiction faite aux politiciens de tout parti d’occuper un poste au sein d’une administration locale. En outre, si un titulaire d’un poste au sein d’une administration locale est reconnu coupable d’une quelconque infraction, il lui sera interdit d’exercer ses fonctions pendant cinq ans.
Pour renforcer la gouvernance et attirer des compétences de qualité, les municipalités locales seront désormais en mesure d’étendre leur réseau de recrutement à l’ensemble du pays.
