Quelque 60,2 millions de dollars ont été identifiés au cours du mois de juillet 2020 comme étant investis au profit d’entreprises africaines dans le cadre des investissements de private equity, a appris l’Agence Ecofin se référant aux données qu’elle a collectées sur ce secteur.
Ce montant peut être plus élevé, car il ne représente que la part des 12 transactions dont les sommes sont disponibles sur les 19 opérations analysées, indique-t-on.
Deux opérations au moins ont été financées via la dette, tandis que les apports en fonds propres et en ressources de capital-risque ont logiquement été dominants. La transaction la plus importante du continent sur la période analysée est l’apport en fonds propres de 28 millions de dollars effectué au profit de Komaza, une société kényane du secteur de l’agro-industrie. Parmi les investisseurs, on retrouve Novastar et des institutions comme l’assureur français Axa.
La période a aussi été marquée par la réalisation du tout premier investissement effectué par la Women Investment Club (WIC Capital), une société de capital investissement basée à Dakar au Sénégal, fondée et dirigée par des femmes. La firme a investi en fonds propres 378 469 de dollars au profit de E-cover SAS, une société qui transforme des pneus usés en outils divers.
Le private equity africain a aussi été marqué en juillet par trois sorties d’investissement majeur. Le britannique 8 Mile a quitté le capital d’Orient Bank en Ouganda au profit du groupe kényan I&M Bank. La firme londonienne Apis Partners a quitté l’actionnariat de la société de technologie de paiement DPO Group et Enko Capital a cédé sa participation dans le capital de la société Ceva Logistics.
