Le géant français Total qui produit près de la moitié du brut du pays, a déclaré qu’il ne forerait pas pour l’instant dans le but de trouver plus de pétrole, mais qu’il se concentrera sur la production uniquement.
Et d’ajouter : « Nous avons suspendu toutes nos activités de forage comme tous les autres opérateurs en Angola ». Il en est de même pour toutes les grandes multinationales présentes dans le pays.
« C’est la première fois depuis que nous constituons des archives en 1984 que l’Angola n’a pas une seule plateforme de forage en activité. Nous nous attendions à ce qu’au moins dix appareils de forage soient en service dans le pays, d’ici la fin 2020, soit le nombre le plus élevé de tous les pays africains cette année », a commenté Sarah McLean, analyste senior chez le fournisseur londonien d’informations spécialisées IHS Markit.
Les conséquences pourraient être graves pour un pays pauvre fortement dépendant des revenus du pétrole, et dont les dettes dépassent la capacité de production, indique Reuters.
