Le Malawi démarre sa campagne de commercialisation du tabac malgré le Covid-19

La campagne 2020 de commercialisation du tabac qui assure 60 Ma pour cent des recettes d’exportation du Malawi, a été lancée lundi à Lilongwe, la capitale, malgré les risques liés à la pandémie du coronavirus.

Le Directeur général de la Tobacco Commission (TC), Kayisi Sadala, a déclaré que le marché de cette année respecterait les mesures prises par le gouvernement visant à prévenir la propagation du virus.

“Nous ne voulions pas suspendre notre marché du tabac en raison de Covid-19, mais plutôt restreindre l’affluence des personnes pour éviter la propagation de la maladie”, a-t-il déclaré en marge de cette ouverture officielle,

D’autres mesures ont également été mises en place, notamment des règles d’hygiène de base tels que le lavage des mains et le port de masques de protection obligatoires avant d’accéder au marché, a-t-il rassuré.

Il a toutefois indiqué que le marché devrait vendre 161,4 millions de kilogrammes de feuilles, soit une baisse par rapport aux 161,6 millions de l’an dernier.

Le Malawi compte à ce jour 187 cas confirmés de Covid-19 dont 3 patients guéris et 2 décédés.
