Mauritanie : signature d’un contrat d’exploitation pour 2,2 trillions de pieds de cubes de réserves de gaz

Agence Ecofin – Après avoir été abandonné par Tullow en 2021, le champ gazier Banda va enfin faire l’objet d’une exploitation qui permettra au pays d’accélérer l’électrification et de réduire ses importations de produits pétroliers.

Le 1er avril 2024, le ministre mauritanien du Pétrole, M. Nani Ould Chrougha, a signé un contrat d’exploration et de production de gaz avec le représentant du groupement de sociétés « Go gas » et « Taqa Arabia », indique un communiqué publié à la même date.

Le contrat porte sur l’exploitation des réserves de gaz dans les champs Banda et Tevet situés dans le bassin côtier mauritanien et qui disposent de réserves totales estimées à 2,2 trillions de pieds cubes de gaz naturel.

Dans son communiqué le ministère indique également qu’il est prévu que le gaz extrait des gisements entraîne une transformation majeure dans la production d’électricité, étant donné qu’une partie va alimenter en gaz une centrale électrique (180 MW) située au nord de la capitale Nouakchott.

Par ailleurs, le contrat prévoit aussi la mise à disposition de réserves électriques supplémentaires en faveur de la SNIM, la société nationale d’exploitation de fer et la SOMELEC, la société nationale d’électricité. Cela a pour objectif de renforcer l’industrialisation et le secteur minier du pays, grâce à un accès à une électricité fiable et moins couteuse.
