APS-Le Japon et le Sénégal ont procédé à un « échange de notes » en vertu duquel ce pays d’Asie offre au peuple sénégalais 1 milliard 250 millions de francs CFA pour l’aider à résorber son déficit en céréales, at-on appris vendredi de la représentation diplomatique japonaise.

L’accord relatif à ce don a été signé le même jour à Dakar par Izawa Osamu, l’ambassadeur du Japon au Sénégal, et Oulimata Sarr, la ministre de l’Économie, du Plan et de la Coopération.

« Ce don d’un montant d’environ 1 milliard 250 millions de francs CFA est destiné à l’achat de riz pour contribuer à résorber le déficit en céréales auquel le Sénégal fait face », affirme l’ambassade du Japon au Sénégal dans un communiqué parvenu à l’APS.

Elle rappelle que l’assistance dans le domaine de l’agriculture et du développement rural est l’un des piliers de la coopération entre les deux pays.

« La sécurité alimentaire est l’une des priorités majeures du Sénégal », ajoute la même source. « À ce titre, poursuit l’ambassade, l’assistance du Japon est articulée autour de l’augmentation de la productivité du riz, de l’amélioration des conditions de vie et de travail des petits agriculteurs et du soutien aux couches vulnérables».
