Gilbert Houngbo est élu nouveau directeur général du Bureau international de travail (BIT) ce vendredi 25 mars 2022 par le conseil d’administration de l’organisation international du travail (OIT).
Le Togolais a battu au deuxième tour la Française Muriel Pénicaud, nous apprend Togo First.
Avant son élection à la direction générale du BIT, il était le patron du Fonds international de développement agricole (FIDA). Il fut également premier ministre du Togo de 2008 à 2012.

Candidat du Togo et de l’Afrique au poste de direction de l’importante agence onusienne, il dispose d’une solide expérience de plus de trois décennies dans le milieu des organisations internationales, pour avoir occupé des postes de responsabilité au PNUD, à l’OIT, au FIDA, à ONU-Eau.
Élu pour la mandature 2023-2027, il prendra officiellement fonction en octobre 2022.
