Égypte : Revenus records de 6,3 milliards de dollars pour le canal de Suez

Le canal de Suez a rapporté 6,3 milliards de dollars (environ 5,5 milliards d’euros) en 2021, le chiffre d’affaires “le plus haut” jamais enregistré pour cette voie cruciale pour le commerce maritime située dans l’est de l’Égypte, malgré un blocage historique en mars.

Cela représente une hausse de 13% par rapport à 2020, explique dans un communiqué le président de l’Autorité du canal de Suez (SCA), Oussama Rabie. Il ajoute que le canal a vu transiter 1,27 milliard de tonnes de cargaisons diverses, “ce qui dépasse l’intégralité des chiffres enregistrés jusqu’alors”.

Le nombre de navires l’ayant emprunté atteint 20.694, contre 18.830 en 2020, soit plus de 56 navires par jour, note encore l’établissement public. Et ce, en dépit du blocage en mars de cette route par le porte-conteneurs géant Ever Given, occasionnant une importante perturbation du commerce maritime mondial.

Le navire avait encastré sa proue dans la rive est du passage le 23 mars, bloquant complètement la circulation pendant six jours.

D’après la SCA, l’Égypte a perdu de 12 à 15 millions de dollars par jour de fermeture et un de ses employés est décédé pendant le renflouage du navire.

Situé entre la mer Rouge et la mer Méditerranée, le canal de Suez voit passer environ 10% du commerce maritime mondial et représente une source précieuse de devises pour Le Caire.

En novembre, la SCA avait décidé d’augmenter de 6% les droits de passage pour les navires à l’exception de ceux transportant des touristes ou du gaz liquéfié à partir de janvier 2022.
