Le pays espère réintégrer l’ITIE après sept ans de suspension. En effet, le Gabon avait adhéré pour la première fois à l’ITIE, le 14 mai 2004, avant d’être suspendu en 2013 pour non-transparence dans la gouvernance des industries extractives.
« Aujourd’hui [11 août], le Gabon a soumis au secrétariat de l’Initiative pour la transparence dans les industries extractives (ITIE) son dossier de candidature en vue de sa ré-adhésion à ladite instance internationale ». L’information est donnée par le ministère gabonais de l’Économie et de la Relance et relayée par Le Nouveau Gabon.
Toujours, selon cette source, le dépôt de candidature du Gabon à l’ITIE repose sur des efforts conjugués et continus de toutes les parties prenantes œuvrant pour le retour du Gabon vers cette instance internationale prestigieuse. Aussi, précise le ministère, « l’implémentation de cette norme (ITIE) devrait permettre de renforcer la bonne gouvernance dans notre pays en mettant en cohérence les flux du secteur extractif et les mécanismes qui, une fois valorisés, peuvent être mobilisés pour satisfaire les besoins des populations ».
En mai dernier, Léontine Tania Oyouomi-Loumbou, présidente du Groupement d’intérêt de l’ITIE Gabon, avait annoncé que le dépôt de candidature du pays devait se faire au courant du troisième trimestre 2021. Pari tenu donc.
Dans son programme triennal de réformes économiques et financières signé récemment avec le Fonds monétaire international (FMI), soutenu par mécanisme élargi de crédit (MEC), le pays s’était engagé à réintégrer cette initiative.
