En novembre 2018, StarTimes avait conclu avec la Lega Serie A un premier accord concernant les droits TV de la Coppa Italia et de la Supercoppa Italiana. D’une durée de trois ans, ledit accord devait expirer à la fin de la saison 2020-2021.
StarTimes, premier opérateur de télévision numérique en Afrique, a renouvelé les droits exclusifs de diffusion de la Coppa Italia et de la Supercoppa Italiana pour trois saisons supplémentaires en Afrique subsaharienne. Selon les termes de l’accord, le groupe chinois va continuer à diffuser les deux compétitions de première division italienne en anglais, en français, en portugais et dans des langues locales africaines jusqu’en 2024.
Grâce à cet accord, StarTimes veut offrir à ses abonnés, à travers toute l’Afrique, du contenu sportif de qualité. Cela lui permettra également de renforcer sa position dans le paysage de la télévision numérique sur le continent.
« Nous sommes heureux de prolonger notre partenariat avec la Lega Serie A. Il est important pour nous de continuer à offrir du football italien aux fans en Afrique. La Coppa Italia et la Supercoppa Italiana se sont avérées être des compétitions passionnantes, qui sont devenues très populaires parmi nos abonnés », a déclaré Philippe Zou, directeur du centre d’exploitation du contenu de StarTimes.
La Coppa Italia est la compétition de la Coupe nationale italienne à élimination unique, et la Supercoppa Italiana est le match annuel entre le vainqueur de la Serie A italienne et le champion de la Coppa Italia.
