La Société anonyme les Grands trains du Sénégal (GTS–S.A.) a adhéré à l’Union internationale des chemins de fer (UIC), l’association professionnelle mondiale représentant le secteur ferroviaire, a appris l’APS, jeudi.
’’J’ai le plaisir de vous informer que pendant sa 98e session tenue par visio-conférence le 8 juillet 2021, l’Assemblée générale de l’UIC a ratifié la demande d’adhésion de GTS’’, lit-on dans un courrier du Directeur général de l’UIC, François Davenne au secrétaire général de GTS, Jules Marcel Sagna.
’’GTS est maintenant un membre associé de notre association et peut bénéficier des avantages liés à ce statut’’, est-il mentionné dans ce document dont l’APS a eu connaissance.
Selon le courrier, GTS devient également un membre de facto de la région Afrique.
La société anonyme Les Grands trains du Sénégal, en abrégé GTS–S.A., est née de la nouvelle politique de l’Etat visant à accorder une place importante au sous-secteur du transport ferroviaire.
A travers le Plan Sénégal Emergent (PSE), le projet Train express régional (TER) a été réalisé pour assurer la desserte ferroviaire du nouvel Aéroport international Blaise Diagne (AIBD) mais aussi assurer le transport urbain de voyageurs anciennement dévolu au PTB-S.A, lit-on sur un site dédié aux Grands trains du Sénégal.
Devant cette nouvelle donne, les activités du PTB-S.A., devenu la Société anonyme les Grands trains du Sénégal (GTS–S.A.) depuis le 18 mars 2020, ont été redéployées vers la desserte interurbaine, avec de nouvelles missions.
Cette mutation, à travers GTS–S.A., va permettre au Sénégal de franchir un nouveau palier dans l’essor du transport des personnes et des biens, dans des conditions de sécurité et de respect de l’environnement, ajoute la même source.
Elle signale que ce projet dénommé Programme de relance du transport ferroviaire national (PRTF) vise à augmenter et diversifier l’offre de transport collectif interurbain mais aussi à assurer le transport de fret par voie ferroviaire.
De telles mesures sont de nature à apporter des réponses adaptées aux besoins de déplacements des personnes et d’acheminement des marchandises générés par la croissance soutenue des activités économiques, selon les responsables des Grands trains du Sénégal.
L’UIC vise à ’’promouvoir le transport ferroviaire à l’échelle mondiale avec l’objectif de répondre efficacement aux défis actuels et futurs liés à la mobilité et au développement durable, de développer et faciliter toutes les formes de coopération internationale entre les membres et promouvoir le partage des meilleures pratiques’’.
