Le gouvernement rwandais et ses partenaires vont lancer un programme conjoint visant à encourager les opérateurs locaux de taxis-motos à passer à l’électrique.
« Au cours de la phase de mise en œuvre, les opérateurs de motos commerciales qui souhaitent rénover leurs motos pour en faire des taxis-motos respectueux de l’environnement seront aidés à accéder à des prêts bancaires pour procéder à ladite conversion », a déclaré le chef de la société à l’origine de cette initiative.
Selon Donald Kabanda, directeur général de Rwanda Electricity Mobility Ltd, cette initiative s’inscrit dans le cadre d’un effort national visant à éliminer progressivement l’utilisation des motos traditionnelles à moteur fonctionnant à l’essence ou au diesel.
« Le moteur sera transformé en machine électrique, pour réduire la pollution atmosphérique causé par les émissions de gaz, ainsi que les coûts de carburant », a-t-il expliqué.
« Le coût couvrira deux batteries facilement interchangeables ainsi que le processus d’adaptation, qui consiste à remplacer le moteur à essence ou diesel et ses accessoires, notamment la chaîne et le tuyau d’échappement, par des pièces électriques », a déclaré M. Kabanda.
Il y a environ 46.000 taxis-motos au Rwanda, dont 26.000 opèrent dans la ville de Kigali. Actuellement, quelque 120 e-motos circulent sur les routes rwandaises, dont la moitié a été achetée en plusieurs versements.
Les experts des changements climatiques affirment que le remplacement des motos à combustion par des motos électriques est l’un des paris les plus solides pour réduire les émissions de CO2 et contribuer à l’amélioration de la qualité de vie des populations.
